Saal Avalar
Brief Overview
Captain Saal Avalar was, for a short while, the Captain of the Silver Squadron, the elite group of pilot commandos stationed on The Justice, a Nebulon-B frigate under the Rebel Alliance. Known by many to a fierce Mon Calamari and a seasoned starship pilot, he is admired throughout the Alliance as someone who accomplishes missions under incredible stress.
Avalar has been suggested for promotion to Commander on several occasions, but has turned down the honor each time. He has told his superior officers that he believes he can be of more use as the commander of a single squadron out in the field.
Combat Methodology
Avalar is, by his own admission, an old salt. His basic stance on training is that experience leads to survival, and that training simulators are a waste of time. While many, including Captain Alec Brand of The Bravado, do not agree with his methods, it cannot be denied that Avalar gets results. The survival rate of his men is a statistic that is in great debate, despite the unquestionably excellent record of Avalar himself.
